Project details

CIRN2005, the second  annual conference of the Community Informatics Research Network, attracted over 200 international and local delegates to Cape Town. Some 100 contributions covered a wide range of community-related topics, from technical and design issues right  through to strategies and methodologies.

The conference focused on (but was not limited to) research, policy development and practice that relates to the theme of partnerships in a Community Informatics construct.  The aims and objectives of the conference were:

  • To provide a professional outlet for Community Informatics research
  • To promote the aims and objectives of the Community Informatics Research Network
  • To demonstrate representative Community Informatics activities in South Africa
  • To establish the Cape Peninsula University of Technology as an international hub for CI activities in South Africa
  • To conduct the annual general meeting of the Community Informatics Research Network
  • To link South Africa and the Community Informatics Research Network into the WSIS process
  • To promote the needs of South Africa in the world and demonstrate it as a place for economic, social and cultural partnerships, visitations and inclusion.
